Game related upcoming stuffs

This weekend EotR will be running their special Camp-out Edition (now with fewer calories) of EotR 2306!!! OK, its not really 2306, but it is a big event that will be pulling together a number of plots and kick-starting the focus for some new ones. That being said, I'd like to point out a few things to make sure that you're prepared:

1. Bring your own copy of your sheet, we will not be printing sheets out for game.

2. We still need a few (2-3) NPC's for those not interested in creating a character for the game. Specifically, I would love Josh Demers to NPC something for us, if you'd like to contact me. The remaining NPC's will be on a first come first serve basis and may require you to have specific costuming.

3. There will be all this week news stories that relate to what is upcoming. Some of what is happening has been coming for a year or more. Now we reach that point.

Any questions, please let me know.

I'm back and back to work. Thanks to all for their condolences. I'm still tired from the whole experience. Coming back to work after 2 weeks away was rough.

I spent some time this weekend working on EotR 2306. Michael, let me know what email address you want me to use to send the stuff to you. We may also need some NPC's for those who will be there.

I think that's it. I'll try and write more later.

Disturbing words warning

I'm going to put most of this behind a cut. For those who want the really short version: I'm at the Inn my mother runs, we took care of business in Miami and I'm flying back tomorrow night.

I arrived at the airport after my 6:20 AM flight at about noon yesterday. My mother and I climbed into her car and we headed off through Alligator Alley into Miami. For those not aware, Alligator Alley is around 75 miles through the Everglades. Nothing on either side of the highway as far as the eye can see but swamp. It goes clear through the Everglades. Had it been another time I would have been interested. At least until I got bored.

We got lost in the barrios surrounding Miami as I discovered my mother didn't actually know where we were going, just taking one highway that went to Miami. After close to 2 hours of being lost we pulled into the first hotel we found downtown and checked in.

My mother failed to pack anything but toiletries (no clothing) in her confusion, so we set off to find a Target. The internet connection failed to work at the hotel as well, so we needed to find a place to get online since the crematorium was emailing her paperwork. The detective said we'd meet him at the M.E.'s office in the morning and we went off to Target, Kinko's then dinner.

Day 2
We got up a little after 7, had breakfast at the hotel and mom called the Medical Examiner's office from the table at the hotel restaurant. There is nothing a surreal as being asked if you want more coffee while your mother sits across the table and discusses the caliber of bullet that her husband used to kill himself with the Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner.

We called the Detective and drove down to headquarters to meet him. There were no regular conference rooms available, so we used an interrogation room (the Detective called it "the Box"). He asked about the past and the recent conversations, and it turns out he killed himself at some point after he called my mom drunk and angry. The detective let us know that he had killed himself in his truck in a parking lot for the beach, and someone noticed him slumped over in the car and called 911 when they noticed him bleeding. He had put a gun in his mouth and pulled the trigger. The ambulance came shortly thereafter and when they found no pulse and a gun, they closed everything off as a crime scene.

We were given what little of his possessions the detective had taken, 2 credit cards and a license, the rest was still in the truck. We were then given directions to the impound lot to pick the truck up.

I will say I am still uncomfortable about what happened. We had to clear off the massage pad that he had on the chair since it was blood-soaked. Despite that there was a puddle of congealed blood on the seat. We covered it with a shirt and I had to drive the truck, sitting in that seat, the 4 hours back to Sanibel Island. I am still not OK with this, but I couldn't very well have my mother driving that. There is Evidence tape all over the truck still.

I'm with her now at the Inn. I'm not sure what else to say.
I'm back from Jamaica. It was fun. I'll try and post about it later.

My mother's husband committed suicide, probably last night. I'm flying down first thing in the morning to go be with her. As such, I'll be out of touch for a while. Someone please pass this along to the forums I'm on.

Good weekend, nice and longer than usual. My wife said something similar last night, and I didn't say anything at the time, but the last few games I've gone to, I haven't felt it until I got there and started RPing. I had this sense of dread that I wasn't going to enjoy myself, then I did.
I'm in a really bad mood today. So I'm going to rant. I'll put it behind a cut. I don't need anyone to say anything about it, I'm probably out of line on some of this, I'm probably spot on on other points. This is just for me to vent.

I'm starting to get really sick of LARPing. I'm thinking of cutting 2 of them out of my life because the angst isn't worth it. Lately I'm not feeling motivated to RP 24-7. I don't feel a burning need to get on the forums, I don't think some games are all that other people seem to think they are. I like some of my smaller table top games, but even sometimes those piss me off. Stop blurring the IC/OOC line. Don't tell me something, then later say "no I told you that OOC". Or tell me we're having an OOC conversation, but then take the info and use it IC. If you are on the staff of a game, listen to me if I have complaints as a player, I'm telling you this for a reason. If I am your ST and you have a problem, tell me, or else I don't know. If you tell me and I try and fix it, don't tell me that the real problem was something else. Tell me what's wrong. If our gaming styles aren't meshing right now, that's OK too. We'll just see one another elsewhere.

I'm sick of people trying to make me feel guilty for being an adult. I have a job that I need to go to for at least 45 hours a week. I get paid for doing this so that I can have a certain level of living. I like being married, thank you, and, yes, I will be having kids. No I have no problem with this, yes, I know it will be a big change in my life. I'm sorry if you can't handle that change. The house you visit is mine... well, mostly the bank's. I pay close to $2000 a month to live there. What happens to that I am responsible for, I can't just move out and lose a 1 month deposit. I have neighbors, I must live with them for the next decade or so. No, you can't piss them off because you don't understand suburban life.

No, I don't think you're funny when you tell that story about: something racist/the time you did something so stupid it should have eliminated you from the gene pool/your character that I've heard everything about/how disgusting your living conditions are.

No, I'm not a fan of your overly self-important scene. The fact that all of your clothes come from the store that's really against "the man" doesn't impress me, in fact, its owned by a corporation, just like the Gap. I was in "the scene" at one point. I stopped, it bored me after a while. I still own the Bauhaus albums. I cut my hair because I wanted to. Short hair does not equal sell out. I realize that having a job that pays more than $10 an hour... hell a job that doesn't pay by the hour, is part of being an adult. Especially when that job offers benefits and vacation time.

I think that's it.
Weekend

Good weekend all in all.

Friday, CoS. Very mixed bag. I enjoyed running some plotting that required a lot of thought, dedication, and scheming. It didn't go off exactly as planned, but we had several layers of contingency built in. Problems arose with staff interactions. They are being emailed on this, so hopefully it doesn't happen again. I am, unfortunately, feeling a pattern emerge.

I also got some news about EotR that confuses me. We're trying to take player feedback, but I'm not sure the players know what they want. If anyone can tell me, please let mw know.

Saturday, some relaxing then pajama shopping. I hate this task and hope to never have to do it again. The Big and Tall store's pajama bottoms were all 2-3 feet to long. No, I'm not exaggerating, 2-3 feet. And the clerks harrassed me.
Pajama Jam was as to be expected. Got my drink on for the first time in a while, enjoyed it. Did some groping. Fun was had.

Sunday, laying on the couch playing Oblivion and then Mage. Not bad.

Why can't this be happening somewhere closer than New Rochelle:

Original 'Nightmare' To Return To Theaters -- For Two Days

In advance of its release on DVD, Wes Craven's original Freddy Krueger horror flick A Nightmare on Elm Street will be shown in 124 theaters across the country for two days only, Sept. 20 and 21, New Line announced Wednesday. In addition to the digitally remastered film, the theaters will be showing a reel of "Freddy's Best Kills," from seven Krueger sequels -- a reel, said New Line studios, "that can be seen only in theaters during this special event." Tickets are being sold online by www.BigScreenBoxOffice.com for $10.00.
from IMDB

Apparently my phone is randomly sending text messages with the contents of the previous text message to random people in my phone book. I checked to make sure I had the keypad lock on and that I wasn't doing this via pocket-push.

So if you get a text message from me that says "and some Preparation H" you'll know why.

Very odd.

I haven't really felt like updating lately. It just hasn't been something I felt like doing. Not sure why. Last 2 weekends were a lot of fun, but I'd rather talk about them in person.

Yesterday when I got home there was a note from UPS that they wanted to deliver something, but needed my signature. I called to have them drop it off after 6, but was told that they could not, though I could come to them between 9 and 6 during the week. Thanks, but I work until 6 this week and next. They agreed to send it to me at work, though, and I got it today.

Completely confused as to what it could be, since I haven't ordered anything online I opened it up. Its a leather-esque tri-fold organizer sent from Sandals, where we'll be vacationing in 17 days. In it is some junkmail (obviously), a 30 page booklet on planning (what to bring, things to do, what to be prepared for), 4 luggage tags, and a booklet with my booking #, e-tickets for the plane, transfer vouchers for the shuttle to and from the resort/airport, a check-in voucher, and resort contact info.

This rules!

Did you get one yet Her Lady Hate?

I just shelled out $1175... the last payment for the Jamaica trip.

Now we wait for the passports and stock up on B12.

Just FYI, I'm not mad that a few rings and stakes from the gazebo got lost. I'm not blaming anyone, had this been a perfect world I would have taken time off of work and gotten to camp and set it up myself, thus the blame would be squarely on me. It is not a perfect world so this didn't happen.

The intent was this:

Gamers, learn to clean up after yourself and respect property of others.
Contribute at least as much as you take.
Treat your waitress well; listen when she comes to the table - stop talking about game for a second while she tries to match up people and food; pay your fair share of the bill & tip well.
Ask what you can do to help set-up/take down, ST's don't get paid for this.
Every time you b!tch to a staff member about something should be matched with a "thank you" for donating their time to a game.

That's all, just a general reminder that gamers can, as a group, lack courtesy.

Breif update

I had a good weekend, I'll admit though, not a great one. I think that was mostly because I felt like I was left out of some things because of the time I arrived. That's no one's fault but my own, school has to come first. Showing up as people were getting out of costume on Saturday felt like I just missed it.

I enjoyed playing Quintus, as I always do, but I had a case of plot blue balls, since I missed the end to the two groups that I was with. I got pulled out of the group I was with for most of the event right as we put all of the pieces together and then went to another group, but left before the end. It's cool, I know that I wasn't the focus, and playing a supporting character can be fun; I just would have liked to have seen the end to one of them. No biggie, I'm not upset about it. I think the staff did some amazing things with the story. Jenn loved her end.

Sunday was good RP, I got screwed over a lot as Zorin, and it was a blast. Left much later than I intended to but that's OK.

One thing I'd like to see more of among the gamers is working together to get stuff done. I feel a lot lately like people are willing to use what's there and take what's given, but reluctant to help clean or take down or help look for stuff or contribute. This doesn't go for everyone, just an overall feeling in general.

Thanks to everyone for the weekend, it was fun.
