I haven't followed figure skating since Michelle Kwan retired (tragically goldless), so I'm not what you could call knowledgeable about Mr. Johnny Weir here. But this program makes me love him. I have no idea if he's gay or not, but the fact that he stole one of Beyonce's tour outfits and then vogued for four minutes to Lady Gaga makes me think he juuuuust might be. Either way, this is awesome:

Here's life in a series of bullet points.

*I'm going to be busier than usual this week, so do not be surprised if I don't crawl out of my cave. Secret Projekt #1 and #2 have beget #3-6 on top of my usual contracts.

*I'm also a bit of a ball of stress due to some medical stuff. It's stressful. But I'll live. I'm mostly sure. Really.

*One of the reasons I'm going to be so busy is that I won entry into Evolver's "Divination: How to Read the Future Now." Teleseminar Intensive Class. As this has already gotten me a chance to compare notes, briefly with Erik Davis and tomorrow is Rachael Pollack, I'd count it as a victory.

*I'm also dealing with some horrible family stuff. I mean, there's not much I can do about it, but it weighs on me.

That's life in a nutshell. It moves on, I dread weathering another winter here in Indiana, but life, such as it is, isn't bad. In fact its the only game in town.

Nov. 9th, 2009 @ 06:14 pm Kitties!
I have two kittens, one black and one grey striped, who need homes. In a perfect world I'd love someone to take both, but I will place them seperate. They are both fixed, have all their shots, are dewormed and tested negative for feline lukemia.

They spent their first three months outside and are working on being cool with people. They play, have learned how to purr and with a bit of love will make awesome house cats. The grey one enjoys burying his face in the arm of my hoodie while I'm wearing it and the black one likes to growl to himself as he eats. It is a fierce battle to decide which is cuter. If you have *any* interest contact me and I'll either have you over or dig up some pictures.

I would keep them, but Michael and I agreed no more pets for awhile and I don't want to send them to a shelter.

Nov. 9th, 2009 @ 08:19 am The Weekend
Friday - needed to take a half day in order to head down to the DMV to get my shiny new DC driver's license. Went to Georgetown and was surprised at how efficient and nice the people were. Big difference from my Virginia experiences.

Saturday - Had folks over for some geekery. Also, got my passport book and passport card in the mail. For those who are thinking of getting a passport, their website is a big, fat liar. Four to six weeks is patently laughable. It took them thirteen weeks to process my passport. Be forewarned. And yes, as expected, my photograph makes me look like a skinhead drug dealer.

Sunday - went to tour the West Wing with friends, which was as awesome as expected. We saw the door to the Situation Room :), the Oval Office, the Roosevelt Room, the Cabinet Room, the Rose Garden, the Press Room, and the Navy Mess (cafeteria). Right after we left, Marine One dropped Obama back home. That afternoon, I drove over to [info]votishal's house for some kibbitz time about some stuff we're working on and enjoyed some delicious mac'n'cheese. Came home and wrote for a bit.

And now I'm back at work.

From this Bunny comic, which is itself a reference to this XKCD comic. Both of which are awesome. :-)

Nov. 6th, 2009 @ 09:56 am Cam Club... about time.
I just read this from the White-Wolf website: )

So if this is the case, I will be very excited. The reason why I left the cam club in the first place was because of A)Lack of local games and B)Did not like most of the new world. Right now I own a LARP company, and also run a second game... but if other people in the area actually took the initiative to start up the old domain I know that not only would I go... but I would bring other people with me.

We actually need people who are willing to do the jobs instead of just collecting prestige, however.

How many mishaps does the stupid Hadron Collider of Doom have to have before we accept that either God, the Higgs-Boson of the future, or some other force of the universe wants us to call it a day? Seriously now. Sometimes you just have to step back and ask yourself, "is someone trying tot ell me something?"

The latest way in which the universe is trying to stop us from engineering our own black hole-flavored doom: a bird drops bread on an outdoor mechanism, causing the LHCoD to overheat. This is an actual thing that happened.

TAKE A HINT, SCIENCE.

Nov. 5th, 2009 @ 09:55 pm Writer's Block: Here's looking at you

What is your all-time favorite, romantic movie scene? What about it speaks to you?

View 996 Answers

I'm not a huge fan of the movie, but the scene at the end of When Harry Met Sally, when he tells her he loves how it takes her an hour and a half to order a sandwich, is my all-time favorite romantic movie scene. It's not cheesy; it's just real. He's telling her that he loves her the way she is. There's nothing in this world that I find more romantic than that.

Guy writes satirical column on feeding children. It's so obviously satire it all but slaps you across the face. And yet you can always count on the internet to either get offended at nothing or just not get it.

Let's have a look at the irate comments:

"You are what you eat. Feed your baby the things you like to eat, and if you’re lucky he will grow up to be a responsible parent just like you."

All I can say is YOU ate and apparently still eat a whole lot of IDIOT. "Responsible parent" I think not after that commentary. I guess it was supposed to be an attempt at humor, but I found absolutely nothing funny about it. And I agree with the previous poster, there are some ding bats that will probably take it seriously.

•••

Sometimes I laugh at your stupid columns Doug, but this one was over the line and distasteful, as well as dangerous....read comments above....The world we live in today is full of so many crazy people; I am horrified to think that this just gives them fodder for more craziness. Draw the line at children please; especially infants! Badly done today.

Dr. Pepper and Red Bull for a 3 month old? Really?

And of course no discussion on child nutrition (even one begun in jest) would be complete without one of these comments:
Breast is best. Formula is junk food for babies.

People are stupid and they make me sad.
